Stress and cancer. Be aware!!!

Stress and cancer are very much connected. In fact, stress plays a major role in the development of cancer. The discovery of how human body responds to stress belongs to Canadian physiologist H. Selye and is considered to be the great medical breakthrough. Stress and stress reactions are commonly used terms, which represent a state of organism, its response to emergency or extraordinary situation.

Any extraordinary situation, according to Selye, which causes changes in the human body, is described as a general adaptation syndrome. The first phase – the phase of alarm – is characterized by serious burst of energy needed to survive or escape. It takes a lot of energy, which is drawn mainly from the pool of carbohydrate, and in case of its inefficiency – of proteins and fats.

In order to mobilize the necessary minimum of its resources to survive, the body pays with subsequent functional and even structural insufficiency: the specific syndrome of the alert phase develops, which manifest itself through the over-activity of the pituitary-adrenal axis, esophagus erosion, involution of the thymus gland and lymphatic system, and hence the decrease in immunity. After the stress experience, human body becomes more vulnerable to so-called noci-influence for some time, including various diseases.

Upon termination or weakening of the noci-influence, the described changes go into the recovery phase – the resistance, which replaces the catabolism with anabolic processes (i.e. increased protein synthesis, energy recovery). If the noci-influence leads to aggravation of the symptoms – the alert phase goes into the phase of exhaustion, which results in the death of the body.

At first glance, the attention is drawn to the similarity of manifestations of resistance and the nonspecific enhanced resistance phases. Moreover, it has emerged from the stress models, that adaptogens accelerate the onset of the recovery phase with abatement of the damage signs in the alert phase.

The phase of resistance acts as an effective stress regulator. However, later it turned out, that the onset of this phase – is just one of many other remarkable properties of adaptogens, which occur during the stress.

A large number of experimental and clinical studies have shown the increased spread of tumor metastases after the effects of significant stress factors (surgery, hypothermia, overstrain, hyperthermia, anesthesia, administration of the ACTH and hydrocortisone – the basic hormones, which trigger the stress reactions). The studies of American researchers have shown that the stress stimulation can trigger the “dormant” cancer cells, which usually migrate into different organs in the early stages of tumor development and represent the basis for the following dissemination of cancer.

In order to depress the “explosive ability” of cancer the anticoagulants, adrenal corticosteroid inhibitors and novocaine can be used. The role of the anti-stressors may also play various painkillers, narcotic drugs, magnetic field activation therapy and other methods.

But the best way of solving this problem is the same theory of moderate stimulation of the natural defense system using the adaptogens. They successfully act as the stress response regulators; improve the natural body defense, causing cancer tumor growth inhibition.

However, the necessary condition for the effective use of adaptogens is the sufficient degree of the human body purification. In addition, it is necessary to provide the body with a sufficient amount of vitamins and minerals.
